Brief description of organisation: SAMK is operating on the west coast of Finland. The region is called Satakunta and the biggest city is Pori. Distance from Helsinki is 240 km (by car about 3 hours) and there are regular connections by plane, bus and train. SAMK is the leading institution of higher education in the region. It has three faculties and nine campuses. The number of staff members is over 500 and the total number of students about 6,500.
ACHIEVEMENTS: Centre of Excellence in Education, 2005-2006 (Enterprise Accelerator). Centre of Excellence in Education, 2002-2003 (Degree Programme in International Business and Marketing Logistics). Centre of Excellence in Regional Development, 2001-2002 (Prizes are awarded by the Ministry of Education in Finland). SAMK passed the quality system audit by the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council in 2009.
